Women's Health

When thinking about women’s health, there’s a lot to consider. Knowing the diseases and conditions that are among the top health risks for women, such as heart disease and breast cancer, is important.

But for many women, effectively managing other matters that affect daily health, such as premenstrual syndrome, birth control, PCOS, endometriosis, fertility, pregnancy symptoms, menopause and more, also is key to enjoying a vibrant life.

I am experienced in these areas both as a practitioner & in some cases from a personal perspective.  I have performed over a year’s worth of additional study and secured my post-graduate diploma in Gynaecology, Fertility and Obstetrics (DipObsGyn).

Alongside gynaecology concerns, I also work with women on nutrition, stress management, anxiety, muscle injuries, pelvic floor support, sleep hygiene and breathwork.

Menstrual / Hormonal Issues
Menstrual cycle hormone issues involve imbalances in hormones like estrogen and progesterone, leading to irregular periods, heavy bleeding, severe PMS/PMDD (mood swings, fatigue, headaches, bloating, irritability), acne, weight changes, or fertility problems, all stemming from disrupted hormone levels affecting the cycle’s normal regulation. These can range from common PMS to conditions like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, fibroids, cysts or thyroid issues, affecting physical and mental well-being.  Acupuncture can support in regulating hormones, and in turn, the menstrual cycle.

Healthy Lifestyle
Helping women to live well, feel seen and thrive in our current environment is important.  Women take on so many roles, demanding careers it is easy to forget how critical lifestyle, exercise, sleep, and stress management is key.  YOLO Acupuncture goes into depth on nutrition, exercise, sleep, breathing techniques.  Acupuncture can help with stress management, back pain, pelvic floor strengthening, sports injury recovery, and muscle tightness.

Pregnancy
Acupuncture is used in the early stages of pregnancy if there are any signs that the women’s body is weakening and a miscarriage threatens, or where there has been a history of miscarriages.  Acupuncture can also be used in a healthy pregnancy, helping with anxiety, morning sickness, reflux, sciatica, oedema, aches and pains and pelvic pain. Acupuncture can also be used to turn breech babies and to induce labour naturally.  Acupuncture is completely safe during pregnancy.

Perimenopause / Menopause
Menopause is the natural biological stage when periods permanently stop, usually between ages 45-55, marked by lower hormone levels causing symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, sleep issues, migraines, and brain fog, with the transition (perimenopause) starting years before and lasting through the final period, which is confirmed after 12 months without one.  Acupuncture can help with many issues associated with perimenopause and menopause. Acupuncture can safely be used alongside HRT, help those who aren’t able to take HRT or those who wish to choose a natural way of managing their symptoms.
