Men's Health

Men’s health issues often centre on cardiovascular disease, cancers (prostate, testicular), mental health (depression, suicide), infertility, metabolic problems (obesity, diabetes), and aging-related concerns like erectile dysfunction, often compounded by men being less likely to seek timely medical help due to stigma and societal pressures, leading to higher preventable mortality.

Key areas include heart health, cancer screenings (especially prostate), mental well-being, and lifestyle factors like diet and exercise, with a focus on early detection and proactive care.

Fertility
Male reproductive issues are involved in about one-third of infertility cases in couples, and overall contribute to roughly 40–50 % of infertility problems when combined with female factors. Approximately 7% of all men experience infertility.  Many large research overviews have reported declining sperm counts and semen quality over recent decades. Acupuncture can help with many issues associated with male fertility, improving sperm quality, low libido, reducing stress and cortisol, hormone regulation, and improving blood flow.

Stress
In a UK survey, 67% of men said they felt stressed in the past year that they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.  Stress in men can show up in burnout, anxiety, irritability, fatigue, insomnia, tension headaches, high blood pressure, low libido and erectile dysfunction.  Stress in men and acupuncture is a topic getting increasing attention, especially for men who prefer non-medication, body-based approaches to stress management. Acupuncture can help calm the nervous system, lower cortisol, increase endorphins and improve sleep quality.

Healthy Lifestyle
Male lifestyle information focuses on optimizing physical health, mental well-being, and daily habits to counteract specific health risks, as men often face shorter life expectancies and higher rates of cardiovascular and, liver disease compared to women. Key areas include regular exercise, balanced nutrition, preventative health check-ups, and stress management.  Acupuncture can help with pain management and recovery.  Through research it is considered to help with back pain, join pain, muscle tightness, and sports injuries.  Many men also report feeling more energize and focused after sessions.

Cardiovascular & Circulation support
Heart disease significantly impacts men, who often develop it younger and face higher risks, with coronary issues being a leading killer, but lifestyle changes (quitting smoking, diet, exercise), managing stress, controlling blood pressure/cholesterol are key prevention strategies.  Acupuncture is thought to improve blood circulation and lower blood pressure, potentially supporting heart health alongside lifestyle changes.
