Infertility – not just a woman’s concern. Microplastics found in men’s genitals could be leading to a male infertility crisis.
Increasingly microplastics are found in men’s sperm. New research published in the Journal Science of the Total Environment, found on a small male population sample that microplastics have been found in all participants sperm, reducing the sperm mobility and quality.
These particles are entering the body through plastic packaging, certain foods, tap water, bottle water and the air we breathe. In every sample tested at least one of eight different types of plastic were found.
Not only do we need to think about lifestyle, diet and exercise when looking at Fertility issues, both men and women we need to seriously consider plastics and how they are used around us. Male infertility is increasing year on year by 1%, perhaps it is time we did more research on male factor infertility.
